Recently we completed a bathroom installation in Islington, London N7 area. This property was to be let out, thus the project costs had to be kept to a minimum. The property cried for an extensive refurbishment - bathroom and toilet were in really bad condition: comments and pictures here.
The bathroom was quite small - there was only enough space for a bathtub, wash basin, towel rail. But white tiles make it look spacious and light and most importantly - it's clean and tidy. And it looks good enough to meet the tenant's expectations. Toilet is located separately - nothing to say about it really. But the toilet pan is quite expensive - I was surprised to find out it has cost over £300.00. I thought I saw in some London builders shop very similar to this one for about £90.00. Well, maybe the ceramics is much better quality - I hope.
Now you can compare this new flat in Islington bathroom installation and toilet with the old:
White clean tiles and colours always make a difference and it suits everyone's taste: nothing fancy - just basic, nothing to draw your attention - just right for the tenants.
During this bathroom installation in Islington we had some issues with water supply: there was no mains cold water supply stop valve - building belonged to a council and access to the loft wasn't possible. So we just froze off the pipes and installed these valves. Once everything was finished, after few turns off and on, mains hot water supply gate valve broke - again, the pipe needed to be frozen and valve replaced. Usually if you do not use the gate valve regularly (turning it on and off - at least once a year) once the time comes to use it, it breaks. Almost everything that's old breaks - if you start fiddle around. If our London builders accidentally break something that's new, we replace it at our own expense - if that's an old fitting, obviously there can be no guarantee it would not break.
Funny thing was when the valve was replaced, we opened the kitchen tap, hot water started running at normal flow and then suddenly dropped. The hot water cylinder was connected off the tank in the loft (gravity water fall), and from the cylinder hot water supply pipe was running up through the ceiling to the kitchen and bathroom. The fault was clear - there was an air bubble in the pipes. The solution was to open the hot water tap in the kitchen, block the spout with a hand and open the cold water supply (running off the mains water supply)- that helped: cold water pushed back hot water as well as the air bubble. That's the way to bleed this system.
